I had expected to keep my '07 Tundra for another few years, however back in October I ordered a new one.  I picked it up on Saturday.  I went with the TRD Off-Road Rally package.  I'm super happy with the truck thus far.  Its a huge improvement in every way over the 2nd gen Tundra (with reliability the exception).  I considered buying a lightly used '20-'21 Tundra (last year of the 2nd gen was 2021) however the platform is fairly archaic at this point and driving one felt just like driving my '07.  In addition to that, a gently used 2021 are listing for around 60k.  For those in the know, I am fully aware of the issues Toyota is having with the 3.4L in the new Tundra, but have some faith that they are/will be sorted. If the engines in the 2026 trucks are still having issues down the road, I'll dump it for something else.

Anyway, a few shitty pics below along with one of the old girl.  I put the '07 up for sale last week and someone is coming for it tonight.  I will miss that truck as its been my daily for 15 years.  I'm just shy of 300k km on it (299,700), so I likely won't see it past 300k.

Wow, huge congratulations.   I thought I had read somewhere a few months ago that Toyota had finally figured out what was causing the issues with the 3.4L, and knowing Toyota and they way they manufacture, they were probably pretty quick at implementing a fix at the engine plant.  So hopefully yours is good!

I'm sure this truck was eye-wateringly expensive.  These trucks have jumped in price a good 50-60% from when I bought mine in 2018.

Thanks GBA.

They've made improvements to the manufacturing process to remove debris from the blocks as well as improvements to the main bearings.  Time will tell.

All new vehicles are eye watering at this point.  A mid trim compact SUV is 50k+.  This Rally trim is on the lower end of the Tundra trims, but just high enough to have the Softex upholstery and upgraded infotainment.  Honestly, my eyes watered even worse when looking at Ford/GM.  Its no wonder they have huge incentives on those trucks.  I fully expected the Tundra to be priced higher than the domestics, but that's not the case at all.

Additionally, 60k for a 4 year old second gen Tundra is insane.  The TRD Pros are even more.  That's one of the reasons that I went new.  Crazy story, I paid $26.5k for my '07 in 2010.  That truck owed me nothing.

That's a really nice truck! It also looks like a nice spec.

Congrats! Hopefully it treats you as well as the last one, though it's pretty hard to beat the reliability of the mid 2000's Toyotas.

Nice, Congrats! I really like the way these new Tundra's look, they nailed the styling, too bad the reliability has been questionable from launch - really impacted their sales I think, and also pushed the value of those 20/21 models through the roof. At least you're going in well aware of the potential issues, and hopefully at this point in the game they've sorted it.
Gotta say though, your old truck looks pretty damn good in that photo...those wheels and flares really suit it well, I'd rock that for sure!

15 years and under $30k truck, man that's a great stretch.

Hard choice on which of the four choices we have in this category, Ram, GM, Ford, and Toyota, all seem to had powertrain issues of some sort.  Like you I would bet on Toyota figuring it out than any of the domestics.

Love the look of these trucks and pricing does seem competitive and availability doesn't seem to be a big issue.

Congrats and may it be a good companion for your journeys for many years.

Ya, it's odd, the RAM has had the least powertrain issues over the last couple years. Not what you'd expect from Stellantis, especially after recently introducing a turbo six.

Thanks all for the kind words!

Ya the old truck does look pretty good yet. The main issue with it is the floor of the box is rotting. Few more years and it'll have visible holes through it. I'm sure I could have found a box and had it painted for much less than a new truck though, haha.

The data doesn't really reflect that.

The first full year of availability (2022) even though constrained by supply chain issues/Covid they sold about the same number as the old truck. The next year, 2023 was the best Tundra sales figures in 15 years. 2024 was the second best EVER sales figure, only behind the first full year of sales of the previous generation. 2025 sales will be the 3rd best EVER for Tundra.

I think they're doing just fine.

And the sales figures reflect this.

GreatBigAbyss

Pretty sure they're selling as many as they can build.  Certainly, dealer lots don't seem to have new trucks sitting on lots for long.

BridgeCity, did you have to order this one?  Or find it on a lot somewhere?

Bridgecity

Ron is bang on with the sales figures. Best sales in many years besides the introductory year of the second gen. That said, I'm sure they'd be better if the 3rd gen wasn't having engine problems.

GBA, dealer inventory for Tundras is minimal. The single Saskatoon dealer had two units on their lot when I initially visited. Some Alberta dealers have more available, but we're talking under 20 in stock, typically less than 10. I had to order. Zero negotiation on price, but as previously mentioned they are priced well below the domestics, at least on the mid level trims.

I test drove a couple Fords and going in I thought I'd be driving an F150 based on reviews. I don't get all the reviewers that place it as the number one pickup. Im sure I have bias. Tranny is sloppy, and the suspension is floaty in comparison to the Tundra, which is much more direct. Wind noise is also much higher in the F150. I drove the Tundra and F150 within an hour of each other, and drove a couple trims/engines of the Ford. Also, the company I work for has a significant employee Ford discount. It wasn't nearly enough to get me to move over. I really wanted a 5.0 at the start of the buying process but couldn't go that direction in the end.

I've driven and rode in several current GMs and am not interested.

I haven't spent any time in a current gen RAM.

Alright, I guess it sells better than I thought. I've probably only seen maybe a dozen or so on the road down here.
