In these perilous times where once rock solid international relations are, well, less so, we Canadians have been encouraged to look inward and celebrate what we have right here chez nous.

This year I decided to explore our Canadian whisky scene a bit more than I have in the past.  I ordered two bottles from the BC distillery Macaloney's.  One is the Peat Project Harvest Coast while the other is called simply Kildara.

Wonderful expressions of the fine art of whisky making, showcasing how we have taken traditions from both Scotland and Ireland and reimagined them on these shores.

How about all of you?  What new Canadian product, service, art form, etc. is turning your crank these days?

Speaking of whiskey, John Sleeman & Sons is the closest Canadian Whiskey to Bourbon that I've ever tried.  Distilled in Ontario.

I like baked beans particularly with breakfast. Bush's has been my go to.

But have been enjoying Sprague beans as of late.

Sprague baked beans varieties

• Cowboy Baked Beans: Features bacon and brown sugar for a smoky, traditional profile.
• Prince Edward County Baked Beans: Prepared in a rich, homestyle tomato sauce.
• Maritime Baked Beans: Slow-cooked with dark blackstrap molasses.
• Campfire Baked Beans: Infused with Canadian whisky and a mild, smoky heat.
• Rocky Mountain Baked Beans: Made with a sweet-heat flavor and plant-based, vegan bacon.
• Sugarbush Baked Beans: Prepared with pure local maple syrup (Fosterholm Maple Syrup) in a sweet and savoury vegan style

I'm not a whiskey guy, but a buddy of mine introduced me to White Owl spiced whiskey. Holy crap that is some excellent stuff. Him and I almost polished a bottle off while shooting the shit on a Saturday afternoon. Made in High River, Alberta.

My wife is a descendant of a Sprague, but sadly no rich inheritance from us! We traced her family tree back and I think three Spragues came from England and settled in one of the earliest settlements on the east coast of America.

Are those Sprague beans tasty?

They also make great soup and chili.  Factory is in  Belleville

I'm the only one who would eat beans in the house so I often don't buy them, but I'll have to try some. Costco apparently sells an 8 pack of Sprague triple bean chili.

For anyone with children still in diapers, we use Royale disposable diapers made in Canada, and La Petite Ourse reusable diapers Chinese made but a Canadian company.
