Tortoise's 2021 Passport

As mentioned in the buying thread, we picked up the Passport on Friday. It's a 2021 with 89k km that lived it's life in Huntsville (small town about 3 hrs north of Toronto). It was purchased from the dealership and returned when the owner replaced it with a 2026 Passport. I feel like a car in Huntsville lives a way easier life than one in downtown Toronto or Montreal, and it certainly looks and feels like it's lead an easy life.

It has full service records and has needed nothing beyond routine maintenance. The tires and brakes are new. It was rustproofed early on and again in 2026. I'm not sure if it was done every year, but there is very minimal rust underneath. Another bonus. Outside it is VERY clean, with only two small scratches low on the front bumper and some normal scratches in the hatch lip. Otherwise, there are no dings or any other damage. It essentially looks brand new. And the same goes on the inside where there is very very little wear to be seen.

The purchasing process was fairly easy, I test drove it two Fridays ago and picked it up a week later. There wasn't a ton of room to negotiate since it was already $2500+ below the average asking price. So, it feels like the price was a little better than fair.

White wasn't my first choice, but when you're looking for used cars the colour is usually the first to go. Since the rest of the boxes were checked it was fine. I think it looks pretty good in white with all the black trim. And really, there weren't many great colour options for these, so it was really between black, blue, gray or white. And the blue looked so-so.

When I began looking I was convinced the 2022-2024 models looked better. After living with this for a bit, I'm not sure. I think the refresh sorta looks like they glued a nose onto it and called it day. It's a lot less cohesive.

One oddity is that it came with 18" wheels from a Pilot that I think look a lot better than the black 20" wheels that normally come standard on the Touring model. The fact they ride smoother, are harder to curb and are cheaper to replace is icing on the cake.









The hatch space is a decent size, the pink thing is my wife's inflatable stand up paddleboard and there's lots of room left.



I installed a hitch and wiring today. The hitch was 6 bolts and the wiring adapter plugged into an existing harness. I local shop wanted $400 to install both, so I did it myself. The hardest part was cleaning out the threads with a wire brush. I'm happy with how it looks. The OEM hitch and wiring is about $500 more and it needs a new hands-free liftgate sensor and rear trim piece. I went with Curt for both the hitch and the wiring and the hands-free still works. Sweet!

Even though your Passport is 5 year old it still looks minty fresh.  I think you'll enjoy this vehicle for many years to come.

Nice! A really sensible choice and the perfect size. I've never driven or even been in one of these but I imagine it's way more substantial and solid-feeling than a CR-V while being more maneuverable than a Pilot, which seems like a huge vehicle. Bonus points for an old-school V6 which is probably way smoother than a turbo 4.

For the scuffs on the rear hatch lip (mine had the same), I'd look at touching them up with a touch-up pen & then getting a PPF put on there. Unfortunately Honda don't make any dealer accessory that you can buy to put on there, I looked all over when I had mine. Only option I found was to get some PPF put on there. So touch it up & go with a clear, or just a black PPF & no touch-ups required.

Funny that they swapped out the factory 20's for 18's, but maybe the owner wanted a little softer ride. I didn't find the 20's to be that bad, but you'll probably appreciate the extra sidewall of the 18's. I went with 17's for the winter on mine & it was a noticeable difference in the ride & handling.

I think this is the perfect size for you & the family. The boys & dog will have plenty of space in the back seat as there's tons of legroom & shoulder-room as well.

I'll be curious to see what your gas mileage is like, mine was always sitting around 14 - 15ish in mainly city driving. Longer drives it would dip into the low 10's, high 9's.

Weathertech now offers a bumper guard for the Passport. It's only $100 and I think it looks pretty good. I'll order one at some point. From what I can tell it will cover most of the scratches. It's surprising that Honda never offered anything.

Since the 18's have a width of 245mm vs 265mm for the Touring 20's it may be a little better. We put about 5 hours on it driving from the dealership to my dad's and then home. Mostly around 95-100 on the 2 lane then 120 on highway 417. It was sitting at 9L/100km when we got home. Which is about what I expected.

Nice buy, I actually think the white is probably the best color for it. As already said, these are solid units, and the old school V6 will serve you well for many years. Congrats!

The original owner likely put winters on the factory wheels and picked those wheels up for summer, kept the winter wheels to sell separately.
