Revelations

I'm happy our local BC parts store (Lordco) now stocks Wix filters. They used to stock only Fram filters. Once I saw the utter destruction of an engine due to a Fram oil filter. It was on a ford 6.0 diesel, the Fram came apart and the filter media plugged the oil cooler, it snowballed from there and cost the engine. I'm sure they're fine, but I wont use one.

Finished the tire swaps on all four cars last Monday. Did one CX-30 prior to the vacation, then one car per day when we came back. I hate doing the CX-90. Not only the mounted tires are huge / weigh a ton, but the pinch welds are really deep under the car, and hidden from view by the lower plastic cladding. The only way to align the jack is to lie on the floor, on your side. This is probably telling of the narrower ROW CX-60/80 body.

Kept the Crosstrek for last, as it's the easiest of the bunch. And I noticed why my oem floormats were always moving these last few weeks - both retaining pins broke off from corrosion at the base or poor welds...

This discussion reminds me that I will have to try to identify what oil filter the TR6 uses. The car has received a spin-on filter kit at some point, and without removing a wheel I can't see any inscriptions on the black filter. It's still in storage at the moment, but will be coming out soon!

I did the tire swap on the CX-5 last weekend and filled it up from half tank.  We haven't put many kms on it since we got the Prius.  I think I've put 60l of fuel in it since February.  The wife mostly uses it to run a few errands during the week (she's still at home on leave, so no commuting), and I've used it a couple of times to do jobs that the Prius wasn't suited for - like renting a trailer to do a dump run, and picking up my grill from Luxe (it was a BIG box).

Sold the GS-350 yesterday. Had a great run with that car and it was still working fine but we felt it was time for a change into something with more practicality.  Certainly, the most reliable car we've ever owned.  Sold at just over 285k km and only non-scheduled maintenance was a seized rear caliper.  Buyer was impressed how solid it felt for its age, with absolutely no rattles, or squeaks during the test drive.

Yep..if I wanted a car for the REALLY long haul, it would be a GS or ES.

What's next?

Changed the PCV and Purge Valves on the Mustang now that it has 200k on it.
Didn't have a CEL but there was a smell of gas upon startup.
Smell now gone and hopefully better mpg.
