Heard a worn bearing type of sound from the rear and knew it was probably the rear motor assembly.

This turned up in a few threads about the Bz4x during my research, so I wasn't totally shocked. I knew it would be covered by warranty.

Took the car in and sure enough...needs replacement. Part of the warranty process is taking a video. So it was interesting to watch them drive the car to 80km/h on the hoist while filming it.

Part has been ordered. Cost for part is $10k. It's a newer part number so hopefully it's better for long term reliability.

Am glad warranty is 8 years.

Rock solid reference for the thread title.

Well, at least it's covered so it's only the inconvenience you're out. Did you get a loaner? Or can you still drive it?

At least it was something you knew could possibly happen & was covered. Hopefully the newer version is more robust.

Yes, they still remain driveable throughout. I have never read of a truly dead motor. It's just a noise thing. Sounds like the groan of a bad wheel bearing. Once you hear it though...you can't unhear it and becomes annoying. Volume at 24 obscures the sound.

I will be getting a loaner. The dealer says I'm the first one needing this repair, so they want to take their time. They're just waiting for the part to arrive and then we'll get the ball rolling.

I thought there might be a couple who recognize the reference! 😃

Oh I was under the impression your vehicle was brand new. Hopefully you get it back soon.

Is it $10k for the electric motor part, or does that include the labour to install?  Seems a bit pricy if it's just a motor considering how much motor you can buy for $10k if it's an ICE application.

Good thing for the warranty. I consider myself pretty ballsy with my automotive choices, but I wouldn't own an EV out of warranty.
