My wife figures that with neutral walls, you can make any floor work and dress things up with furniture and decorations. Sure hon, whatever you figure  ;D

I like neutrals too, but prefer the warm neutrals...most grey shades are really cold. Most of the furniture in our 'nice' rooms (i.e anything that isn't a kids bed or play room) is 18th  or 19th century...some of it legit, some of it repo stuff. Similarly with artwork too, went through a phase where we were really into collecting old oil paintings, so lots of big gold gilded frames and dark oil colors. That sort of stuff looks out of place against cooler greys/neutrals IMO.
Unfortunately, most of this house was painted in greys when we moved in, so I've been slowly repainting to our tastes. Still have a long way to go though.

When I moved into my place almost 5 years ago now, I painted most of it in Benjamin Moore's OC-23 Classic Gray. Contrary to the name, it's more of a very warm grey bordering on beige, or at least that's how the lighting makes it appear in my place. Very neutral and you match many kinds of furniture, rugs, fabrics, etc. to it... I still like it a lot and would choose the same colour today. On the other hand, I painted one bedroom in a more specific green-ish colour, and I'm tired of it already and thinking of changing it.

Definitely a fan of neutrals over here... I also find it jarring when you go into someone's home and every room is a different colour, cuts off the flow a lot I find.

We have neighbors that just had their entire house painted a few years ago. Every room is a different color, it is quite jarring walking through their house with all different greens, reds, yellows, and such.

In my parents house the rooms are different colors but they're just different shades of white. ;D

We're officially looking for a replacement for Junior #2's 2013 Nissan Altima.  As I mentioned in another thread, I believe the CVT is on its way out.

Found a 2010 Civic locally for sale.  Looks clean. LX coupe, which are decently equipped and not many around.  210k kms.  So not terrible.  Junior 1's 2012 Civic is currently running strong with 285k kms.  Priced at 7k, which is a really great price in this area (I know, still seems like robbery for a 16 year old car).

Lady says no problems with the car, and previous owner told her no accidents.  I ask for the VIN.  There's 3 total loss accidents on record.  Lady legitimately seemed shocked, so I'm guessing she believed the previous owner wasn't lying.  The accidents were within the last 5 years, so I figure it wouldn't take much to write off an older Civic and its still worth a look.   If it drives straight and solid, and runs well might be worth the risk.

Its a 35 minute drive one way to see the car.  She messages just after I leave to go see it and says she likely won't make it home in time but the kids are home and I can have a look at it.  I said I need to drive it, and asked if she's OK with that with just the kids being home.  She replies with "ya, but only a short drive as its not plated".  She's out on a farm yard and was willing to let me drive it a mile down the gravel road but not on the highway.

WTF?  Who tries selling a car with no insurance/registration and doesn't want anyone taking it for a legit drive?  Anyway, I told her I'm not interested any longer so the search continues.  Man, there sure isn't a lot out there for under 12k.  Once you get into 15k price range there's a lot more options.  I thought I overpaid for the 2012 Civic three years ago at $7500.  That thing was a bargain. Prices continue to rise on these compacts.

Good Luck.  It's a real tough market for the cheap, affordable car.

If you need to widen your search to the Winnipeg market, I could take a look at some out here for you.

We're actually travelling West on July 3rd, if a deal happens, I could quite easily drop the car off in Regina for you.

^ Thanks GBA, I'll keep that in mind, appreciated.

Meh, I don't think I've ever driven a car a mile before buying it...Maybe around a parking lot, or around the block, certainly never driven anything on the highway. Even when the seller is cool with it, I don't like it...you never know what their insurance situation is, what's in the car, etc. I'd rather take the risk on buying a lemon than the liability of driving a strangers car on the highway.

Yea, but your're not a young kid where $7500 is all the money in the world and they quite literally can't afford to buy a lemon....

I was, and I still didn't test drive anything.

I am probably missing some details on the Altima, but why not just fix it? Those prices for miled out 15 year old Civic are kinda silly....What's a transmission job on the Altima going to cost, $4K? $5K max? Might be a better option than a $7500 Civic with 3 wrecks on it.

Yea, but you were mechanically inclined as was your bro and dad.

So you guys quite literally could have realistically fixed anything.

We forget...but that's a big luxury!

That's how I learned to mechanic, being young and poor. Between a Chilton manual, youtube and a good tool kit, what else do you need??
