I'm sure there are scenarios where having a record of services at the dealership would make things go smoother. I encountered that when one of the DEF lines had a bubble that threw an error code.  The dealership was giving me grief about using aftermarket DEF*, I eventually got my way but it wasn't without a fight.

*They were being ridiculous because all DEF is made to the same ISO standard. I stopped going to that dealership after that (it was a new service manager).

I dropped the car last night and came back home with a "free" loaner, a 2026 Crosstrek in basic Convenience trim with only 650 km on the odo. A bit quieter than mine, but man what a dollar store level of interior furnishings... Has a physical key to start it and those odd twin screens Subaru still uses in the base trim.

Temps finally went up to around -6°C yesterday, turning our solid snow streets to muck, and downtown the whole mashed-potatoes-with-gravy brown slippery slush conditions were full-on. Pefect commuting conditions for the Scoobie. It becomes a point-and-shoot tool, powersliding around corners, finding lanes were snowbanks are and swallowing frost crevices and potholes. Yes, fwd will get you there, but a Crossie has a f**k winter attitude that is pretty endearing at this time of the year.

My buddy had a base Crosstrek for a couple years, he recently replaced it with a non-base Impreza and it is so much nicer inside.

I sat in a new Limited at the auto show, methinks my previous-gen Limited has a much nicer interior. The base cars were / are pretty stark in comparison.

If Subarus have a weak bit of trim, it's the bracket that holds the safety pins for the front floormats. Both pins broke off on my car last spring. And it's not like the Subie is getting driven a lot...

My mistake may have been buying the oem all-weather mats, their shallow design allowing slop to drop over the sides.

The bracket is not too expensive online, but requires unbolting the driver's seat, consuming time I don't have, 2026 being an annus horribilis for us with both estates, daughter's new condo and myriad other things. But I needed to do something as the driver's mat now flies around and can be dangerous.

So I did what I shoulda have done initially: bought floor liners. My oem set was 2nd-hand, so I started hunting for 2nd hand floor liners, but for the same price I got a new pair of Husky liners on Amazon. Not as deep as Weathertechs, but deep enough and they sit in place without moving. They do have the holes for the safety pins, so I may do the correct repair next year when I have the time. But for now slush will be contained and no mat will get tangled under the pedals.
