Now the NX probably has the worse "driver assistance" systems on the market. I can't count how many false alarms I've had this week. Just this morning, I was parked at the curb in front of the house and I just pulled up a few meters to allow the Mrs on board, and it slammed the brakes and sent me into the horn. Snow on the ground for f*cks' sake.

It was just as bad on the PHEV I drove last year, and the other hybrid I reviewed in '24.

You can turn the sensitivity up/down or turn any of these off easily.

You can turn the sensitivity up/down or turn any of these off easily.

That's why I turn on all the gizmos - they sometimes turn into tasty story bits  Yes, both automatic braking features can be turned off, but they are part of the option packages - pay more for something that doesn't work right and needs to be turned off, yet adds to repair costs and insurance.

I've had various versions on several Lexus/Toyota now and I've never encountered your issues. The low speed auto brake WILL brake the car if it thinks you're going to hit something (even a snow drift, garbage pail, etc), but that's typically with the sensitivity cranked. I used the latest versions of these on the Prius full time and now on the BZ.

Always on, never an issue. The only issue was in winter when completely covered with snow and the car would remind you to clean them off.

I DID have an issue early on with the emergency braking (like if a car pulled in front of you or stopped suddenly) but again, fixed with the sensitivity.

But otherwise the systems have worked flawlessly over hundreds of thousands of KMs.

I have the exact same system in my BZ.

Sounds like he had distance and sensitivity jacked to the max.

Prius also had the same thing..and again...no worries there, either.

I'm sure if you cranked them to the max the car would turn into a hypochondriac worry wort, but, as it sits, its never beeped at me or hammered the binders without cause. It did save the neighbors cat when I was backing it out of their garage though lol
