Heard a worn bearing type of sound from the rear and knew it was probably the rear motor assembly.

This turned up in a few threads about the Bz4x during my research, so I wasn't totally shocked. I knew it would be covered by warranty.

Took the car in and sure enough...needs replacement. Part of the warranty process is taking a video. So it was interesting to watch them drive the car to 80km/h on the hoist while filming it.

Part has been ordered. Cost for part is $10k. It's a newer part number so hopefully it's better for long term reliability.

Am glad warranty is 8 years.

Rock solid reference for the thread title.

Well, at least it's covered so it's only the inconvenience you're out. Did you get a loaner? Or can you still drive it?

 ;D

At least it was something you knew could possibly happen & was covered. Hopefully the newer version is more robust.

Yes, they still remain driveable throughout. I have never read of a truly dead motor. It's just a noise thing. Sounds like the groan of a bad wheel bearing. Once you hear it though...you can't unhear it and becomes annoying. Volume at 24 obscures the sound.

I will be getting a loaner. The dealer says I'm the first one needing this repair, so they want to take their time. They're just waiting for the part to arrive and then we'll get the ball rolling.

I thought there might be a couple who recognize the reference! 😃

Oh I was under the impression your vehicle was brand new. Hopefully you get it back soon.

Is it $10k for the electric motor part, or does that include the labour to install?  Seems a bit pricy if it's just a motor considering how much motor you can buy for $10k if it's an ICE application.

Good thing for the warranty. I consider myself pretty ballsy with my automotive choices, but I wouldn't own an EV out of warranty.

Same.

Back when Edmund's had their excellent Inside Line car mag, I enjoyed reading about all the issues they had with their early build Model S. It went through multiple motors and batteries, on top of chewing up tires. So it does happen.

Oh there's loads of warranty..8 years.

I should be good for a couple more! LOL 😆

The mandated 8 years 160,000 km is good peace of mind. Unless you bought a Fisker, or buy a VinFast who are showing signs they won't make it to 8 years in Canada.

I don't understand people who are willing to roll the dice on sketchy, no name ev's. I won't buy powertools from the dollar store, why would you risk your family on a highway in the car equivalent??!!

VinFast's entry into our market was puzzling at best. The non government vetted reviews in their home market gave their products a low score, but their plan was to come in at prices rivaling the established players if not more. $60,000 for a 5 seat crossover? $80,000 for a 6/7 seat crossover? Which may have been ok as the lowest price entrant when announced, except Kia simultaneously came in with the 7 seat EV9 starting from $59,999 which kiboshed VinFast's plans big time.

Maybe they were hoping to be the next Tesla. Now they won't lease out their vehicles anymore which signals serious trouble.
