I had been using Sumo Rod Holders for the last couple of years (on the Prius, Porsche, etc). But my BZ4X has some interior space, and I'm fishing some technique specific, hideously expensive rods...So I prefer to keep them on the inside.
To that end, I figured out a way to make them work on the inside.
Some aluminum, some articulating arms and fittings..and presto! Nice rod holders that swing out of the way when not in use.
I think it turned out alright!
Did you actually drive around with the rods on the outside of the Prius like that?
Pretty cool setup, guess you just sourced the articulating arms somewhere? And what about the pieces of aluminum?

Yes, the rod holders were designed for fly rods which can be 9 feet plus and are also $$$$. Sumo's pro staff have tested these on extremely rugged roads and up to 160km/h, so rest assured they're up to the task. I have many hundreds of KMs on them with the Prius and my old Boxster. I feel completely confident with them on the outside.
My biggest issue is if I need to make a stop with rods on the outside. They could be stolen.
So inside they go as needed!
The articulating arms are for tablets in vehicles.
And I bought the aluminum from Metal Supermarket. We have one locally due to the big manufacturing footprint here.
Arms were $25 ea, aluminium $20, fittings $10.
Hmmm,
That would explain the dimples on the hood of my car... ::)
Kidding.

Gotta be honest. Was an initial worry.
