Sunday morning, Winnipeg recorded it's coldest temps of this current arctic blast.

Temp dropped to -38c with a peak wind chill of -51.

Sunday's high -25, Monday -16. That will be nice.

It was nasty.  Even while plugged in, the CX-5 refused to start.  First time that's ever happened.

Luckily a neighbour saw me and pulled into the driveway to boost my car.
One of the stops I made today was to pickup a Noco Genius booster pack for the next time this happens.

Also, it's been over a week and a half since I last went fatbiking.  I'm a wuss, so -15c is my limit.  I'm looking forward to the weather warming up so I can get back out on two wheels and have some fun!

This winter has been a bit odd in Fredericton. 3-4 times we've had significant snow in the forecast and then had barely anything happen. A couple of weeks ago Saint John which is about 100 km away they got well over 30 cm while we got a light dusting. With them being on the coast usually the opposite would happen.

We're getting very little of this big storm that is pummeling so many places right now. It was supposed to snow all night but it started later than it was supposed to and we only have a couple cms down right now and it doesn't look like we're getting much more.

Man, those are some cold temps!
We had this winter storm that's impacted a lot of the US roll through here over the weekend. Temps dropped to around -15C overnight, which is highly unusual as we only occasionally see nights below freezing, and received about 4" of ice pellets/snow. Due to the ice pellets it's a very hard/icy snow, almost like concrete, weird stuff that's very difficult to clear. Got out with the Escalade yesterday and rode around a bit, even major roads are snow covered as there's little snow clearly equipment here, very few people on the roads. Office is closed today as well.

Looks like the GTA got around 50cm of snow last night, pretty crazy for one dumping!

Sounds like a Tuesday here...

Yeah, I mean, even in Toronto the 'storm' we had here would be pretty typical and everything would've been business as usual. There's just no infrastructure or preparedness for it here....No plows, no salters, so the roads stay snow covered and icy, lots of home not built for cold so a lot people had burst pipes and such. Few people have snow brushes, ice scrapers, shovels, etc. Nobody has winter tires, etc.
I also didn't realize how many trucks & SUVs here are 2WD....almost everyone has a full-sized crew cab truck or a Tahoe/Suburban, my brain is programmed to assume that they're all 4x4/AWD, but they're not....in fact, the majority of them are 2WD. So lots of those stuck all over the place. Lots of Challenger/Charger/Camaro/Mustang here too with summer tires that are absolutely useless getting around.

I immediately thought of you Firm when watching the news. Is your house ok? We saw Dallas under snow and ice too, and the last time this happened there were tons of power grid failures and burst pipes, in houses and in streets. Could be awhile until things warm up too.

Good thing this climate change thing is just a hoax according to the Corrupt-in-Chief  ;)

Yeah, we're all good here. Most of the dramatic looking ice storm happened north of us, closer to Nashville, so other than the roads being really sketchy, it's been fine here. House is holding up well to the cold, power has stayed on, etc. It is supposed to stay cold until Monday, gradually warming, so I think we're through the worst of it.

Gurgie

I was in the GTA over the weekend for my Dad's 80th, and tried to GTFO as quickly as possible on Sunday morning. Took the 407 from the 410 out to the 115/35 and it was sketchy as fuck the whole way across the city with some white-out conditions. Once we got up to Peterborough, HWY 7 was decent enough where we could do 100 most of the way back to Ottawa.
