Didn't really need Level 2 for the Prius. Knew I'd need one with the BZ4X. So I finally had one installed.

Was a bit of a job because basement was completely finished. So it had to be run outside. About 70 feet to near the porch. I insisted on every component being commercial/industrial. Teck 90 wire and fittings were used.

I think it turned out well.

Nice!! Ground wasn't too frozen for them to dig & burry the cable?

Frozen. Used a pickaxe.

Looks like a portable, plug-in EVSE? I thought you were going for the Grizzl-E.

Also - you should have that basement crack looked at.

Ugh, I've gotta run electrical like this out to the Pool this spring.....absolutely dreading it. Got like 250ft to cover.

And what basement crack? That tiny little foundation crack within the loop of the charging cord? That's 100% normal in Southern Ontario builds from that era (any probably other eras too). Had quite a few of those on my old house, as do my parents on theirs, never any issues.

How much did that set you back? Do you have load splitting?

He ended up getting Pion.

I was going to get the Grizzl-E, but preferred the rebate of 10 cents per Kwh I get with Pion. My nightly charge rate is 4 cents. So I'm netting 6 cents per hour! I've "made" $63 so far.

I also like that it's portable should I need to bring it along.

And yes, as Firm pointed out that small crack is a nothing burger. But thanks for looking out for me, I appreciate it.

No load splitting. Apparently it wasn't necessary. We aren't exactly "power users" either. Our total bill monthly is only 500-600 kWh. I'm interested to see how much the BZ4X adds to that.

I also used the EV plug on the unused stove circuit. Our dryer circuit is also unused since both stove and dryer are gas. So we weren't adding any new circuits/load to the house. Just using one that was already there and open.

Total cost was $2k and the guy did great work. Good eye for detail.

Some outfits tried to rob/cheat us with their quotes saying we needed a 200amp service first...at the cool cost of $6,500+ Facking crooks!

So my early adopter Chargepoint CPH25 from 2017 finally gave up. After a few app reboots and hard reboots, I tried a factory reboot with a tech on the phone (worked in the past) but still no juice. It starts a session but does not send juice.

I read about a similar issue on a reddit thread and it involved a microswitch in the handle. I tried compressed air and contact cleaner, but still did not work. And since this unit sits outside, I don't want to break the seal.

A new cord / handle is $270, but the current complete kit with the rebate code they gave me was $449, so I ordered a new one.

The Grizzl-E deal seems odd to me, and if the federal program goes, "members" will have to pay for the unit. Plus - I needed a tidy, hardwired setup.

I can understand how their terms and PR person have definitely turned some people away. The terms also note that we essentially own the charger after 3 years, so I'm hoping the federal program lasts long enough. I think Grizzl-E did have hard wired options under the program.

Just on a side note, I wasn't able to activate 24A 120V charging on my Grizzl-E Mini Connect at my campsite. It just charged at 12A. I didn't need the power, just wanted to try it out.

I may be switching to SWTCH. I feel like I made excuses to stay with Grizzl-E long enough.

You won't be surprised but the owner and the way he runs the company just comes off as sleazy. I've never been a fan of his PR but looked the other way for a quality made in Canada charger with a quality app and monthly payouts even if they are low. I like their investment into Canadian manufacturing but I'd be surprised if it was running at this point.

I don't have any confidence that any of the terms and conditions I initially agreed to are still valid. They're also "offering" for us to buy out their charger, but at full retail price ($695) with zero credits and it's still locked to their rebate system. Some people think it's because of the high rate of other program participants abandoning the program and United Charger does not have the capacity to ask people for their chargers back. Some people think the federal government is working to close the loophole that allows this system to exist.

I may hang on to their charger anyway and use it at the bare minimum required to stay in the program, it's still a fantastic portable charger with a plethora of options.

SWTCH has a charger for a $300 deposit refundable after 1,500 kWh, the payout rate is 3 cents for that first 1,500 kWh then 11 cents after that, with an automatic payout every $100. We would have been at $364 this year, with 3 payouts and $36 away from a 4th. We're at $128 earned with Grizzl-E so far, $96 withdrawn, I'm sitting on $32 for some reason.

Wow, sounds very complicated and unsustainable as a business model. What's going on the background for these companies to be able to pay you per kWh of charging? Are they collecting data?

QuoteCompanies like United Chargers (the maker of Grizzl-E EV chargers) make money by leveraging government green energy mandates—specifically Clean Fuel Regulations (CFR) in Canada—to generate, aggregate, and trade carbon credits. [1, 2]
## How the Business Model Works

* Carbon Credit Generation: Under regulations like Canada's Clean Fuel Regulations, large fossil fuel and oil companies are legally required to reduce their carbon intensity or purchase carbon credits from entities that displace fossil fuels. [2, 3]
* Aggregating EV Usage: Programs like the Grizzl-E Club (for home drivers) and Grizzl-E Commercial Club (for businesses) distribute smart chargers for free or via refundable deposits. In exchange, drivers and businesses connect their chargers to Grizzl-E's network. [1, 4, 5]
* Monetizing the Credits: Grizzl-E tracks the kilowatt-hours (kWh) consumed through these chargers. They bundle this data to prove that electric vehicles are replacing gasoline consumption, generating official carbon/clean fuel credits. [2, 4]
* Splitting the Value: Grizzl-E sells those accumulated carbon credits on the regulatory marketplace. They keep a portion of the profit and pass a share back to the user as a cash-back or per-kWh reward (ranging from 3 to 10 cents per kWh). [1, 2]
* Hardware Sales & Commercial Software: Beyond the credit-sharing model, the parent company (United Chargers) still manufactures and sells hardware outright (such as the Grizzl-E Ultimate or Mini) and supplies commercial management software. [4, 5, 6]

If you'd like, I can explain:

* How the carbon credit market works in your specific province or region
* The comparison between Grizzl-E and alternative programs like SWTCH or Pion
