Our current gvt is the one who drew up the 100% EV mandate for 2035 and the various yearly ZEV sale targets on the way to that deadline.

Well, despite QC reaching 33% EV sales in 2024, they are realizing that the economical & political mess south of the border is going to take the market down like a snake in a board game.

So QC will allow the contribution of hybrids and PHEV's to the manufacturer's ZEV tally.

Tree huggers and EV lobbysts are furious, of course.

Being a realist, I think it's a brillant move, given the high cost of entry to pure EV's, the fragile and unstable economic times for manufacturers and our collective ability to maintain subsidies. Plus, it removes the football from the trajectory of China's cheap-EV kick.

You guys know what kind of fuel economy numbers I pull out of my urban-driven reviews. With a Corolla Cross SE Hybrid, my gas use was 50% of what the Crosstrek would have ingested. And the wee 'Yota had more power on tap! Hybrids are a great way to reduce our collective fuel use, and people get it - demand is through the roof.

Warming up the popcorn to see what other jurisdictions will do.

It's great to have lofty goals, but you have to adjust as the facts on the ground change. The reality is that it's near impossible to build the cars and infrastructure required for 100% EV sales.

And let's get rid of the subsidies.

If EVs are so good/desirable, they should be able to stand on their own.
