Interesting numbers in there, with the Mach-E easily beating the ICE coupe to add insult to injury. As my colleague BenoƮt mentions, the tanking sales are odd for a new generation and what is probably the best Mustang ever, but prices have gone up significantly too.

Sad but not entirely surprising. I feel like the only people I see driving Mustangs (the regular one) are the 60+ crowd and recent immigrants. Younger people just don't seem to be interested in this class of car anymore. There even seems to be fewer in rental fleets these days than 5-10 years ago. I was in Florida for work a few months ago and most of the convertibles they had were Mini Coopers and BMW 4 series.

Best Mustang yet?  I feel like they mailed this one in as it's not really much of any improvement over the previous generation.  With no Camaro and still no ICE Dodge charger yet, you'd think these would be flying off the lots, but they are sitting.

I drove a GT manual if this generation and the transmission is horrifically bad.  So bad I struggled to drive my Civic Si right after, and it was only a short test drive.

Ford doesn't listen to what the buyers want and instead just keep costs down by not improving or fixing old flaws, they just add tech and lipstick and call it a day.  Not to mention the major price increases over the prior generation and really bad interest rates.

It's not enough just to be the only V8 muscle car left on the market, it needs to be genuinely good to spend that much money on one.

The previous generation is probably one of the most common cars on the road in the Memphis area...like akin to what the Civic & Corolla are to the GTA, the Mustang is to Memphis, all favors of Mustang too (except that silly EV Thing). Yet, I've only seen 2 or 3 of the new one. I don't mind the new styling, and it's unlikely they've made it worse to drive than the previous one (which I think drives quite well) so it's gotta be pricing.

Times are tight right now for a lot of people, and they're just not tossing money at new cars like they used too, and manufactures have been slow to accept and respond to that. Plus, the manufactures have over invested in non-profitable EV tech driving up their costs to appease government. Those costs need to go somewhere. Look at profit margins for the big automakers, they're not good, Ford being one of the worse with a net profit margin <2%.

Ha, I was in your area last spring for work (Olive Branch, MS to be precise) and the car landscape certainly was different there. Tons of Mustangs, older full-size GM SUVs, pickup trucks, and for some reason I saw a ton of current-gen Nissan Altimas which almost nobody buys in Canada. Oh, and a ton of cars with missing body panels, mismatched panels, or cars that looked completely totalled but were still driving around  ;D You don't see that even in Quebec where we don't have safety inspections.

Just read the same sales numbers in Autoweek, so indeed the Mach-E outsold the Mustang in the US.

In other news, EV sales in the US were up 9% over 2023 and Tesla's numbers are DOWN, expected with increased competition and a customer base that may be at odds with the latest Muskeries.

Sales are still tanking badly since the beginning of the year.

Ford: "Hey, let's build an M4 fighter and price it like a bimmer"

Customer: "I just want a new Fox body 5.0, priced like a family sedan"

I was pretty vocal about car companies and their pandemic pricing increases/gouging and my thoughts remain the same:

I hope they choke on it.

This sales drop applies to cars in general, no? If they build a Mustang SUV it would probably sell very well. And when tossing the Mach E in the mix lets no forget the heavy incentives ford needed to move them.

Missed this post, but yeah, your description of the vehicle population is pretty dang accurate. You missed Charger/Challenger with heavy body damage and lifted 3/4 ton trucks.
