Title: Found On The Internet: The Next Chapter
Post by: Bubba on Dec 23, 2024, 01:27 PM
Found a few vehicles on Bring A Trailer that caught my eye.

1978 Plymouth Volare Super Coupe. It needs some TLC, but it looks good overall.

1991 Ford Escort LX Wagon. I'm curious as to what this will sell for. Most of these were used up and thrown away, so it's nice to see one in very good condition.

26k-Mile 2006 Lexus LS430. One for rrocket. And it's in that gorgeous Cypress Pearl! I'd love to get a ride in one someday.

Oh man, how many of those Ford Escort wagons were rolling around back in the 90's.  Crazy that one survived.

Obviously that LS is a cherry.  Would buy that over any modern luxury barge currently.

This sounds like a cherry of a car for Bubba.  All of the ones that I've seen for sale are ex cop cars and are very roughly handled through their ownership and high mileage.  So this is a unique one that might actually be a good buy.

I bet it would lay down a decent quarter mile at the drag strip too being AWD.

Looks like it's in good shape.  I never liked how high the awd cars sat.

Thanks for posting.

If only I owned a shop or was a good DIYer, this could be a pretty fun little project.  Heck it's probably worth this amount just for the powertrain, wonder if anyone has engine swapped that into something different?

Wasn't it Jaguar owned by Ford back then, would be pretty cool if you could easily swap it into something like a same era Mustang or even Thunderbird.

One of my favourite Jags; I still think they're beautiful. Tight back seat, though, and you might need a large budget to keep it running.

Ewww late 70's cars are so unappealing.  Styling was icky and the engines were a step back in power and character compared to the 60's and early 70's.

Another cherry of a vehicle locally, this time it's a pickup that we all seem to love, a last generation Toyota Tundra, top of the line Limited, with under 100,000kms, elderly owned, and undercoated yearly.  All for the low price of $17,500

My God that's well preserved. It's interesting how many ridiculously low mile irocs (or similar Camaros of that era) have shown up in recent years, at least a dozen or more. This one is interesting because it's got the 5.7L, which is fairly uncommon as most got the 5.0L, along with the G80 rear axle and rear discs. However, it's otherwise got zero options; base interior, no power windows, locks, mirrors, no t-tops, no overhead console, no IROC striping, etc. Someone wanted just the performance goods, absolutely nothing else, and then never drove it....

I currently own f-bodies with all 3 versions (hardtop, t-top, convert). Each have their pros and cons, and you'll find f-body guys in each camp. Personally, it depends on how you use the car....If it's a race car, or an all-weather driver, hardtop is probably the way to go. As a fair weather cruiser, I like the convert, but then the 80's vibes from the t-top setup are pretty hard to beat.

For the record though, not all the t-tops leak, they just need a little care. My T/A is water tight, and back in like 2015-2016 I was dailying it in Ontario without any leaks. I rub a little dielectric grease on the seals and make sure that the drains are clear. The 4th generation t-tops (93-02) are far superior too - don't think I've ever seen a leaky set of those.

Had a Monte Carlo SS with T-tops that didn't leak. Rattle? yes, wind noise at highway speed? plenty. I'd love another with or without, did like the t-tops myself.

I've never had a set 'rattle', but there is an adjustment on the tension for the hold downs, I bet they'd rattle if that were too loose.

I've been tempted before by the S/C T-Bird, they seem to be fairly reasonably priced. Then i think back to my Ford dealership days in the late 90's and those Birds always coming in with spun rod bearings. One of the veteran techs told me they have really weak bottom ends for a boosted engine.

Same, never pulled the trigger, but I always look at them when they pop up in marketplace...Cool cars. I think a 5.0L version of the regular car would probably be the way to go. The Mercury Cougar variant was also available with the 5.0L, looked a little better IMO, and was typically better equipped. That's a car a lot of people sleep on....5.0L, RWD, big cushy seats, and you can find them for practically nothing.

Raiders are rebadged Mitsubishi Monteros, neat units. Have the same 2.6 4 that my Plymouth Voyager has. That said, they must be awful s-l-o-w.

A member of our Turbo Dodge community bought a 1983 Plymouth Scamp. I'd never heard of one. Its a one year only (1983) version of the Dodge Rampage.

I love that kinda stuff. Problem is; what do you actually do with it? Hold it as a collector car / weekend toy? Probably not on a base-ish Grand Am, drive it and pile on the miles and then you've taken away what makes it special....It takes a certain person who really loves that particular car, and has the space/means, and you need at least two people like that to drive the price up.

This particular car is kinda rough too....The lower quarters in front of the rear wheels, below the cladding, is rotting out. Common spot for those cars, but still surprising at 28K, even in NY....I suspect it's lived outside most of it's life.

I saw that too.  Would be a fun highway cruiser.

My Dad has a '94 Roadmaster, but not the Estate. 69k km on it now. Near showroom condition.

Rides like a dream, handles like a boat.  Surprisingly the front seat is very cramped. Not much interior space for the size of the car. Much more room in a modern day compact. I spent a few hours driving it a few weeks back and couldn't wait to get out of it.

A 1959 BMWW 507 Series II on BaT: https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1957-bmw-507-roadster-2/

These are quite beautiful cars. They only built around 250 so as you'd expect they're very valuable. Two previous ones on BaT sold for nearly $2M.

It ended up RNM for $1,780,000.

So this is interesting. I knew about the Mega Cruiser, but I didn't realize they offered a high roof model with a comically large windshield.

I remember this XKR being for sale in Fredericton at a dealer way back in like 2008-2009. They had it for forever but their cars were often overpriced and sat for ages. Not sure I understand that business model. Anyways, love these in red, and love those BBS wheels. One of the best looking modern coupes IMO.

Who could forget First Class Auto, back when they sold only interesting vehicles.  For sure they were always overpriced, but at least they were a one stop place to view used luxury vehicles.  Now I think they are just the Kia dealers used car lot.

I actually saw a fairly clean Citation on the road the other day.

What's hilarious about the Citation is that they sold incredibly well at first, but they were such turds that sales very quickly fell off a cliff. 800k built in the first year of production, falling to nearly half the next year, and then by more than half the year after that. And that doesn't include the other three cars built on this platform which I think also sold in fairly big numbers.

I'm going to assume that any Citation seen on the road today will be clean :)

They actually had s factory-made, "real" WRX hatch (using a Crosstrek) at the Japanese Mobility show this year.

That looks so much better than a Crosstrek and a WRX.  Stupid Subaru.

Need to ditch the roof rails for it to look really good.

Owner probably needed them. The common trick is to buy the "filler" strips used on Imprezas. You have to partially remove the headliner to get to the hardware, but that's much easier than the rest of that swap!
